Mahajati at Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial 2024

Mahajati brought the timeless beauty of Islamic calligraphy wood carving to the 11th Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial with its exhibition, An Ode to Heritage and Craftsmanship. Held at the Sharjah Art Museum from October to November 2024, this exhibition offered visitors a unique look at Mahajati’s artful blend of tradition and design.
The exhibit featured 22 handcrafted teak wood pieces, ranging from intricate wall art to functional items like mabkhara (incense holders) and rehal (book / quran holders). A centerpiece of the collection was a large mabkhara inscribed with verses from Surah Al-Hujurat 13, measuring 60cm x 52cm. Mahajati also introduced its latest Freestyle Full 3D Wall Art in the Moalla script, merging traditional Islamic art with a contemporary flair.
Mahajati's Founder, Mohammad Mohdar Anwar expressed, “Representing Singapore and Indonesia at such a prestigious event is an honor. Mahajati's pieces reflect our passion for wood carving, each one a testament to the beauty and legacy of this timeless craft."
The exhibition attracted distinguished guests, including His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais and Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Deemas, recognizing the cultural importance of Mahajati’s work.
